At present, there's an ad on TV that lists all the things that AI can do. One of them is "write your kid's school essay". It's an ad for home repairs and the claim is that AI can do nearly everything except fix your plumbing.
That's concerning, and many experts are sounding the alarm about the overreach of AI. It has given me much pause for thought about my work and whether I should hang up my editing pen.
But I'm stubborn and hopeful and I'm going to keep offering old-fashioned writing help with a pulse, I don't like being bullied by the endless apps pushing AI functions, and I hope that the pendulum will swing back to appreciating human brain power.
To repeat my position, I'm not a Luddite and I've always embraced advancements in technology. But I have such faith in the human mind, that I cannot agree to the surrender of our thinking, creativity, originality and inspiration to the regime of a robot.
But it's hard to find people who just want help from a living, breathing coach like me, One of the factors is the cost. I don't do my coaching and editing for free, and a lot of those AI tools offer free fixes. So students with a limited budget choose the free robot over help from me.
Writing anything is a personal experience, and sharing what you've written is an act of courage. So I like to provide support for anyone who is writing, but particularly those who are struggling with academic writing to complete a thesis. It gives me great pleasure to help students cross the finish line.
Think of my work as a heritage craft, based on old-fashioned values and approaches, and tried-and-true methods to improve writing. Try it--I think you'll like working with me.
